Session Content

The first session establishes the student’s current level of I.T skills. Whilst this is mentioned in needs assessment reports, the trainer assesses I.T competency in more detail, allowing them to fully understand the individual’s study style.

While the trainer uses the D.S.A needs assessment as a guideline towards understanding the student’s needs, he also provides the opportunity for the student to explain his or her needs in an open discussion. The trainer can then prioritise the student’s requirements, and identify the specific learning methods that will best enable the student to make use of their I.T equipment.

eden's holistic approach

  • Introduce software and study skills
  • Show how the software can be applied to study skills
  • Provide multi-sensory techniques to find the learning method that best suits the student
  • Initiate study skills support and assistive technology training to ensure both can be used together.
  • Use the computer and software as tools for developing study skills
  • If more training is required, a referral is made to the initial needs assessor
  • Training is completed when the dyslexic learner is able to train the trainer on how the specific equipment works. Only once this level of competency is fulfilled can trainers verify that the training support given was successful
