What is EDEN?

EDEN is a tailor-made training service specifically geared to adult dyslexic and dyspraxia learners in further and higher education. Based on the individual student’s learning preferences, Eden’s aim is to implement study-skills strategies and Assistive Technology (A.T training to ensure that students can effectively utilise the equipment provided through the Disabled Student’s Allowance (D.S.A.).

What makes EDEN unique?

Eden uses learning specialists who are themselves dyslexic to teach I.T and A.T skills, using the latest technology. These specialists have an insider’s understanding of what it is like to be dyslexic, and therefore know how to overcome many of the blocks that can hinder successful learning. As a result, EDEN will ensure that dyslexic learners can truly benefit from the I.T equipment provided through their D.S.A.

Why was Eden started?

EDEN was created because of a noticeable vacuum that currently exists within the field of dyslexia I.T training provided through the D.S.A.  At present very little is done to monitor the credentials or qualifications of A.T trainers. Whilst many trainers have come from highly competent I.T backgrounds, very few have developed the skills needed to empathise fully with the learning obstacles that dyslexic learners may encounter.  Even fewer have the necessary teaching qualifications in dyslexia or the experience needed in working with adults with dyslexia. This vacuum in specialised training can exacerbate the strain of learning new I.T skills for the dyslexic student, who may find the process both alienating and disempowering. Therefore, students may struggle to retain the I.T skills they have been taught, avoid using the potentially life-changing software they have been provided with, and even avoid I.T altogether. Eden helps students to overcome such learning obstacles to develop the crucial I.T skills that can enhance their lives.
